IDN-Hardware Sales is one of six regional business hubs that operate throughout North America as part of the International Distribution Network - IDN. With a network of more than 50 locations, IDN offers customers the strength and buying power of a national organization along with local product availability and personal, customized service. Each regional business unit is recognized as one of the leading providers of door hardware, security products, and locksmithing tools in its own region.

IDN-Hardware Sales itself has 10 wholesale distribution centers strategically located throughout the Midwest. The branch network enables same day pick-up or next day delivery service to most customers. The company offers customers technical support; electronic commerce; product and business education events; sales and marketing support; and more.

The company helps valued customers succeed in their own business efforts by providing superior service, technical expertise, and convenient access to both traditional and leading-edge security products and services.

History

IDN-Hardware Sales, Inc. (formerly Hardware Sales and Supply Company) has been in existence since 1925. Originally a branch of the Independent Lock Company (later to be known as Ilco Unican and Kaba Ilco,) Hardware Sales began as a storefront operation in a small building in downtown Detroit. Joe Falk, the founder of the company, was a pioneer in locksmith distribution. He was an influential member of the NLSA (National Locksmith Suppliers Association), one of the founders of MMLA (Michigan Master Locksmiths Association,) and led the company for almost fifty years until his death in 1974.

Hardware Sales and Supply became an IDN company in 1977 and Milt Goldman, formerly General Manager and longtime employee, became its President. IDN is an international network of distributors spanning many cities throughout North America, as well as the name of a product line of security products, which includes locks, keys, and safes.

Milt Goldman was President of Hardware Sales from 1977-1993, leading the company to exceptional growth. The headquarters moved from Detroit to Madison Heights to Livonia, Michigan, where it currently resides. During this time, Milt opened his first branch in Pittsburgh, PA, and a second branch in Ferndale, Michigan (which is now located in Warren.)

Milt's son, Arnie Goldman, an employee since 1978 and formerly VP of Operations, became President in October, 1993. Since that time, IDN-Hardware Sales opened branches in Cleveland, Ohio, Buffalo and Syracuse, New York, as well as Hartford, Connecticut. In 2000, IDN opened its first door and hardware operation in Plymouth, Michigan and then moved it to Livonia, within a mile from IDN-Hardware headquarters.

In October, 2002, IDN-Hardware Sales, Inc. purchased IDN-M. Taylor in Philadelphia, its ninth location and in 2005 opened its 10th location in Harrisburg, PA. All of these facilities allow us to distribute commercial doors, door hardware, and security products throughout the Northeastern United States. We are committed to serving our customer base of locksmith dealers, institutional locksmiths, and door and security alarm dealers, throughout the ten states of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island.
